Out & About in Castle Douglas

Farmers Market

Aptly named, The Market Inn is yards away from the local farmers market Wallets Marts, the premier marketing centre within South West Scotland.  There fortnightly store cattle sales regularly have a packed ringside of bidders from as far a field as Aberdeen in the North and Leicester in the South giving sellers the best opportunity to maximise their stocks potential.

Castle Douglas Food Town

With most of the local businesses involved in either producing or selling food and drink, it’s not hard to see why Castle Douglas has been designated a Food Town.  The vibrancy and appeal of the town lies largely in the draw of the shops and cafes, restaraunts and hotels.

Golfing in Scotland

Half a mile from town centre on A713 Castle Douglas to Ayr Road. Castle Douglas is a 9 hole parkland course which provides a good challenge for golfers of all abilities. Visitors are very welcome and we have plenty of weekend availability (the only restrictions are no visitors Tuesdays & Thursdays after 4pm). A full menu is available from 10am-8pm, April to September.

There are many more visitor attractions in Castle Douglas and the surrounding areas, probably too much to do all at once! Any assistance needed in planning your day trips, or any advice about the ‘must sees’ will be happily provided by our team at The Market Inn Hotel.

Threave Castle

On an island in the River Dee stands Threave Castle, a massive 14th century tower built by Archibald the Grim, Lord of Galloway. The Castle is on an island, approached by boat, with a long walk to the property.  This makes for an excellent family day out, or for those of you with a passion for history, makes a great informative and cultural day.
